The Beatrice and Morris Glasser Preschool of Oak Park Temple B’nai Abraham Zion
Workshop for Parents of Young Children
Glasser Preschool is excited to be offering a workshop for parents that honors the best in ourselves, and inspires effective parenting approaches that we customize to our unique personalities and needs: “Creating Your Personalized Approach for Calmly Helping Your Young Child Thrive” is being offered by Sheryl Stoller, PCI Certified Parent Coach®.. The workshop is being held on Sunday November 22nd from 9:45 to 11:15 AM in the Chapel at Oak Park Temple. The workshop is geared towards parents of children ages 5 and under. This workshop is open to all families: you do not need to have a child enrolled in Glasser Preschool to attend. The workshop is free, but you must reserve your spot through Glasser Preschool at glasserps@ameritech.net. Babysitting is available on Sunday mornings at Oak Park Temple from 9:30 to Noon for $5/per child.
Our School The Glasser Preschool creates a nurturing and stimulating first school experience for young children. The teachers provide a day balanced between planned activities and free choice; quiet time and physical play; group activities and individual attention.
We maintain a low student/teacher ratio.
Children do not have to be potty trained. When the child is ready, the teachers will work with the parents to make potty training a success.
Our program is located in, and is a reflection of, Oak Park Temple. The school observes Jewish holidays and teaches Jewish customs and traditions. All children, however, are welcome regardless of race, religion, or national origin.
We are licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and meet all applicable state and local licensing requirements.
A Typical Day
Free Play begins the day. The children play independently and in spontaneously formed groups as they choose from different learning centers of developmentally appropriate materials and toys, such as playdough, puzzles, dressup, puppets, and a wide assortment of building blocks. Daily arts and crafts activities promote fine motor skills and encourage creativity.
Circle Time is when the teachers introduce weekly themes and the day’s events. Discussions on weather, the calendar, and the World-Around-Us introduce children to math, science, and letters. The children sing songs, listen to stories, and share their experiences.
Large motor play is outside, weather permitting, where the children run, jump, ride bikes and play in the sand. When inside, they play in our indoor play area with slides, bikes, and balls.
Snack Time – more than just eating – is a social time. The children are encouraged to set up and clean up their own snacks.
Parent Involvement
We strongly encourage parents’ involvement in their child’s preschool experience. We have an open door policy for parents to visit, observe and participate in their child’s classroom.
Parents are required to volunteer in at least one of the follow areas: classroom events, social activities, or fundraising. An active board of directors governs the preschool; all parents are invited to attend the monthly board meetings.
Teachers send home regular classroom updates. Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year. The director and teachers are always available to discuss any matter.
