Religious School Discipline Code
The Oak Park Temple Religious School gives a tremendous opportunity for both students and parents to learn and grow Jewishly. Here are our standards of behavior and our disciplinary policy. They are based on kavod, honoring other peoples’ rights to teach and learn. Remember that Oak Park Temple is a House of Worship, and that we all have a responsibility to respect the holiness of prayer and study at our Temple.

For The Parent

  • Please make sure that your child arrives on time, and ready for his or her class.
  • Please communicate with your child’s teacher regarding any absences so that your child can keep up with any work missed.
  • Please see that your child brings only classroom materials to the school.

For The Student

  • Demonstrate these signs of respect and proper behavior while you are here with us.
  • Arrive on time and ready for class.
  • Leave personal possessions or objects that could disrupt classroom learning at home or out of sight.
  • Listen when your teacher is speaking and don’t disrupt classroom learning.
  • Follow your teacher’s instructions.
  • Work together and help others learn.
  • Be respectful and thoughtful when questioning others.
  • Actions that could physically harm you or others are not acceptable.
  • Lashon Harah—hurtful speech—such as swearing, profanity, or name calling, is not acceptable.
  • Do not leave the building without the permission of your teacher.
  • Respect the Temple building and grounds.

Regarding Discipline

Behavior contrary to our standards will be dealt with by teachers and staff.

Parents will be notified of inappropriate behavior either verbally or in writing, by the teacher or Temple Educator.

  • A disruptive student will be removed from the classroom, and escorted to the office of either the Temple Educator or the Rabbi. The parents will be called.
  • Repeated disruptive or inappropriate behavior will require a meeting between the student, teacher, parents, Temple Educator and/or Rabbi or Cantor.
  • A parent may be asked to sit in the class to monitor their child’s behavior.
  • Serious or dangerous misbehavior shall result in suspension from the Religious School. Readmission to the School will require approval by the Temple Educator or Rabbi.
